6.18.14. Some Questions to Think About…and is Your BS the “Real”…Truth??

“I was deep in the zone of practicing almost constantly.”

I think as we get older we also start believing a great deal of the bullshit we’ve tried to convince ourselves for many years. Especially at some milestone….call it 40…50…60…whatever number you choose that is this place that makes you walk out carrying the white flag and into your new 2 bedroom apartment of resignation…and whether the believability has just been too persistent or finally you “Get It” enough and it all makes perfect sense…it does not mean anything is over or done with and now with clear mind, spirit and body…you can naturally move forward…

The term Wabi Sabi: Represents a comprehensive  world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete”.

the process took a long time to create…and certain unique conditions were present for as long as they were to manipulate the process until it reached a variety of different points along its way….and it just might  still be doing its voodoo…

Step up cowboys and cowgirls we are no different….whatever process began on you…begins on you…is still working on you…did what it did until it stopped, changed you in a  way that the process was now a part of you or did all of the above and is still slowly working its magic…not a bad thing at all…it is just a process and imagine if nothing was working on you….then what…that’s eating the same cereal everyday for a few hundred years…

I’ve been working on understanding the processes that have shaped me…made me the person I am and what bullshit I’ve believed…am believing…and setting myself up to believe… and most of it doesn’t nor hasn’t felt true…so time for some new bullshit…

After a great meal with a friend last night…and some equally great conversation…I’ve come to some conclusions that I’ll happily share.

  • As I’ve always believed the distance between “Good” and “Great” is enormous
  • Small changes affect the system much differently than large changes do
  • Place has a great deal to do with one’s position and what they get, but not everything
  • Innovators have far more curiosity than they do fear
  • 100% Belief in what you are doing is always required

This all came from a few questions my friend Richard and I talked about last night…and because art, music is so subjective, you don’t have to like the artist to realize their work had enormous changes on their systems then and now…if you have this conversation with someone change the names to someone pertinent in your life

  1. Why did Jackson Pollack have such an impact on art?
  2. Does time and place matter as much as curiosity?
  3. How would Pat Metheny describe his process of getting to his place?
  4. Is there a common denominator with people who are “Changers”, if so What is it?

I’m working everyday on these 2 things:

  1. If money were no object what would you begin doing  tomorrow?  (clue: the first few answers are probably not well thought out, remember it’s for life. This is a start at the end question)
  2. “Most people don’t really know what they want”me included, knowing what we want is a constantly changing process…but there is a core, it is far more complex than being happy or healthy or rich, because when you have those….there is …that…that over there….the core of what we want allows us all of the happiness, health, wealth and everything….in the words of Jerry Jeff Walker…. “Think about it darling”

Curiosity will conquer fear even more than bravery will.
